What we collect
- Newsletter and reader-magnet signups. When you sign up — on this website, through a BookFunnel landing page, through a StoryOrigin promotion, or through a Facebook/Instagram (Meta) lead form — we collect the email address and, if you provide it, the first name you enter.
- Website usage. Like most sites, our host records standard server logs (for example, IP address and browser type), and we use cookies for basic functionality and performance (see Cookies below).
Why we use it
- To send you the free novella and any reader magnet you requested.
- To send our newsletter (roughly one email a month) about new releases and related news.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website.
We rely on your consent (you asked for the novella or opted into the newsletter) and our legitimate interest in running the site. You can withdraw consent at any time (see Your choices).
Who we share it with (service providers)
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers that run our newsletter and delivery, each acting on our behalf:
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — our email service provider, which stores your contact details and sends our emails.
- BookFunnel — delivers the free novella and other files to you.
- StoryOrigin — used for some newsletter and reader-magnet promotions you may have signed up through.
- Meta Platforms (Facebook/Instagram) — if you signed up through a Meta lead form, Meta collects your details on that form and passes them to us; Meta’s own use of your data is governed by Meta’s privacy policy.
- Make.com — automation that passes new leads from the Meta form into Kit.
- Our web host — stores the website and its server logs.
Each provider has its own privacy policy governing its handling of your data.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for essential functionality and for page-caching and performance. If we run advertising or analytics tools (for example a Meta pixel), those may set cookies to measure ads and site use. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
- Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@kmaldermere.com; we will respond within a reasonable time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), or PIPEDA/CASL (Canada), including the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Data retention
We keep your contact details for as long as you remain subscribed, and remove them within a reasonable period after you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, except where we must keep records to comply with the law.
Children
This site and our books are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “last updated” date shows the current version. Material changes will be posted on this page.
